Azam, Shah Waseef
In this study, we explore financial literacy and the role of financial literacy in the savings behavior of employed graduates in Bangladesh. Additionally, we explore existing policies and landscape components which help people engage in savings activities and what retirement savings policies are being employed in countries around the world. Automatic enrollment has been found to have visible impact on the participation in savings activities by employees. Financial literacy however, appears to have very strong influence on the decision making process. The study is modelled after existing research on the subject matter and conducts an assessment in accordance with internationally comparable surveys on financial literacy. The findings suggest that financial literacy has a strong relationship with active savings behavior as well as being strongly influenced itself, by the field of education and gender of the respondent. How the respondents perceive themselves and their savings behavior also has a strong impact on their actual savings behavior. Highly motivated savers are likely to actively seek out savings opportunities, but relaxed savers are not likely to go out looking but are likely to be receptive to opportunities presented to them such as AE. Female participants tend to score poorly in financial literacy despite having comparable education and employment.

This paper assesses two aspect of immigrants (economic and non-economic) in the European labor market using national level source EUROSTAT of the year 2014. The first segment examines how certain variables affects the participation rate of migrants in 35 European countries. Outcome suggests that immigrants who are more actively seeking employment and lack of native language skills are less compared to other immigrants are more incorporated in labor-market integration. The second segment portrays contrast among the first- and second- generation immigrants in terms of employment, income and at-risk-of-poverty rate. I find that employment and at-risk-of-poverty rate among second-generation migrants are higher and lower, respectively, compared to first-generation. But first-generation’s annual income is higher than second-generation.

<summary type="text">Microfinance: From The Lens of Urban Slum Dwellers in Bangladesh
Tarannum, Maisha
The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of microfinance on the living standards&#13;
of the slum dwellers from three major slum areas in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The&#13;
data intended for this study was gathered by conducting surveys through structured&#13;
questionnaires and interviews of a sample of 100 slum-dwellers - with the sample divided&#13;
into two groups: borrowers and non-borrowers. The data was collected in the beginning of&#13;
the research period, i.e. November 2020, and at the end of the research period, i.e. February&#13;
2021. Data visualizations were created to manage, present, and analyze the data for the&#13;
purpose of this study. It was found that microfinance does have an impact on their living&#13;
standards with borrowers of the loans from Microfinance Institutions experiencing big&#13;
changes to their lives, such as starting a business, buying a boat, etc. They also experienced&#13;
an average increase in their monthly earnings compared to non-borrowers. Moreover, this&#13;
paper identified gaps in the system that leads to hardships in the lives of the slum-dwellers,&#13;
such as lack of utilities, lack of education, mistreatment of women, etc. This paper has&#13;
recommended policies and strategies for the government and development workers to work&#13;
on.
